about me
Hello. My name is Hillary.
This blog is dedicated to my fascination of community dynamics and the effects of social technologies on culture.
I am the community manager at The Community Roundtable, a peer network for community, social media and social business professionals that gives me a unique perspective on the state of community and management across industries.
I also approach community from a background in grassroots organizing and social justice efforts focused on maternal health which is the greatest health inequity of the 21st century. One of the most challenging and exciting community building efforts focused around New York State maternal health legislation in 2010. I led the social social strategy and worked with talented community organizers to grow and connect NYS consumers. We were told by lobbyists it would take 4-10 years to pass the legislation and we did it in 9 months with much credit due to the well organized and thriving community of state-wide consumers who rallied to create change.
My love of people and fascination with cultural and community dynamics goes way back to my undergraduate degree in sociology at the University in NH where I sat down in class on career day and was told that my options were being a sociology professor or a cop. Who would have known a third option was available.
I live with my family in the Finger Lake Region of Central New York where good food, local wine and strong community are abound.
